FAQ

Everything you want to know about how Perpetuity works — our model, our apps, and our promise.

We know the “buy once, own forever” model sounds almost too good in a world of subscriptions. So here are honest answers to the questions we’d ask too.

For app-specific questions, each product page has its own FAQ. This page covers the company and the model.

What does “buy once, own forever” actually mean? +
It means exactly what it says. You pay once, and the software is yours indefinitely. You can keep using it forever — there’s no expiry, no renewal, no way for us to remotely disable it. The only thing that changes over time is the price goes up as the app matures, but once you’ve bought it, your price never changes.
How is this different from a one-time licence fee? +
Traditional one-time licences often only cover a specific version — when a new major version ships, you pay again. We don’t do that. Your one-time payment covers every future version, every feature, and every update to that app, forever. There’s no “v2.0 upgrade fee”.
What are the three pricing tiers? +
Each app has three stages: Founder (lowest price, while the app is in active development), Early Access (while the app is in beta), and Full Release (at v1.0). All three tiers get the same thing — the full app, all future features, forever. The only difference is the price, which reflects how early you’re buying.
Why would I buy before the app is finished? +
Two reasons: price and principle. You lock in the lowest price the app will ever be, and you’re supporting independent software that goes against the subscription grain. You also get to influence the direction — early buyers can shape the roadmap.
Do prices genuinely never go up after I buy? +
Never. The price you pay is what you pay, once, forever. We might raise the price for new buyers at milestones, but that has no effect on what you’ve paid. Your copy is yours at the price you paid.
Can I install on multiple machines? +
Yes. A single purchase covers personal use across your own machines. We don’t impose hard machine limits for personal use. Business or commercial use with multiple employees would need a separate arrangement — contact us.
Is there a free trial? +
We’re building towards a free trial for each app. In the meantime, we offer a 30-day no-questions-asked refund policy — which effectively means you can try it for free. If it doesn’t work for you within 30 days, we’ll refund you in full.
Do you offer discounts or bundles? +
Not yet — but as we build out our app suite, we’ll likely offer bundle pricing for buying multiple apps together. Founder-tier buyers of any app will be first to know.
Do I really get all future features, including AI ones? +
Yes. This is a firm commitment. When we add AI tagging, duplicate detection, face recognition, or any other feature to an app, every existing buyer gets it automatically — no upgrade fee, no new purchase, no tier change required. If you own the app, you get everything we add to it.
How do I get updates? +
Updates are delivered through the app itself. When a new version is available, you’ll see a notification and can update with one click. No account required for the app to work, but we recommend registering your purchase so we can notify you of major updates.
What if a feature gets dropped from the roadmap? +
We’re a small team and priorities evolve, so roadmap items can shift. However, we’re transparent about this — if something changes significantly, we’ll communicate it clearly. The core commitment (what’s already in the app when you buy) is never taken away.
What happens to my software if Perpetuity shuts down? +
The software keeps working. Our apps are local — they don’t require a connection to our servers to function. If we ever shut down, your copy of the app continues to work on your machine indefinitely. We also intend to open-source any app we can no longer maintain, so the community can keep it alive.
How does a buy-once model make business sense? +
Honestly, it requires us to be lean and to build things people want to pay for. We don’t have the luxury of coasting on recurring revenue. That makes us more focused on quality and user value, not engagement metrics. Our model works if people love what we build — which is exactly the incentive we want.
Are you a real company? +
Yes. Perpetuity Software is a registered company. We’re a small, independent team — not a VC-backed startup chasing growth at all costs. That independence is exactly why we can commit to no subscriptions: we answer to our users, not investors.
Do your apps collect data about me or my files? +
No. Our apps are local-first. Your photos, videos, and any metadata you create stay on your machine. We do not upload your content, scan it, or transmit it anywhere. There’s nothing to collect — we’re not a cloud service.
Do I need to create an account? +
The apps work without an account. We do recommend registering your purchase so we can send you update notifications and provide support — but this is optional and we’ll never spam you or sell your details.
Do you use analytics or tracking in the apps? +
No behavioural tracking. We may include optional, anonymous crash reporting to help us fix bugs — but this is opt-in, never opt-out. You always know what’s being sent and can turn it off.
What’s your refund policy? +
30 days, no questions asked. If you buy and decide it’s not for you within 30 days, we’ll refund you in full. After 30 days, refunds are considered case-by-case — we’re reasonable people and will always try to make it right.
How do I get support? +
Email us. We’re a small team and we personally answer support requests. We don’t route you through a ticketing system or offshore support centre. Response time is typically within 1 business day.
What if the app doesn’t work on my machine? +
We’ll do our best to help you get it working. If we can’t resolve it, we’ll refund you — even outside the 30-day window. We’re not going to keep your money if the software doesn’t work for you.
